Unitree Robotics, primarily recognized for its range of quadruped robots like the Go and B series, as well as their humanoid offering, the G1, has stepped further into the realm of complex manipulation with the introduction of its Dex5 dexterous hand. Revealed in a recent video demonstration and detailed on the company's website, the Dex5 represents Unitree's effort to equip robots with manipulation capabilities approaching human agility.
Impressive Dexterity on Display
The promotional video showcases the Dex5, mounted on a humanoid robot, performing a variety of tasks demanding fine motor control. The demonstrations aim to highlight the hand's precision and ability to manage objects of varying shapes, sizes, and fragility.
According to Unitree's product specifications, the Dex5 hand features five independently actuated fingers, including an opposable thumb, providing a total of 20 (16 active+4 passive) degrees of freedom (DOF).
